California Lawmakers To Take Up Online Poker Gambling Issue Tuesday
The state of California has been one of the leaders when it comes to casino gambling expansion in the US. now, state lawmakers may be looking to lead the nation into the world of legalized and regulated online poker gambling.
The Senate Governmental Organization Committee begins an informal hearing on Tuesday, and many members of land-based casinos will be present. Among those that are scheduled to be heard from are ISP’s, tribal leaders, and problem gambling representatives.
California lawmakers began talking about regulated online poker in the last quarter of 2009, and the idea is gaining steam in the new legislative season. California is looking for ways to help balance the state budget, and online poker could be a tremendous asset to legislators.
Already, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has entered into several different tribal gaming compacts. the result has been casino expansion at a rate that is higher than most areas in the US.
While California is traditionally one of the more liberal states in the nation, there are those who oppose online poker regulations. some lawmakers believe that Internet gambling could be dangerous and create many more problem gamblers.
Currently, online poker is one of the trendiest activities across the world. With the US currently having an unregulated Internet gambling industry, most of the action coming from US players is going to offshore gaming operators.
